About The College
The College is the professional body and postgraduate educational provider for specialist General Practitioners and Rural Hospital Medicine Practitioners. Our 75+ staff support around 5,800 specialist GPs in 1,000 practices across the country. Our work exists to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities for all people in Aotearoa New Zealand, and general practice is central to that. Marketing here is not selling a product — it is helping doctors see general practice, and College membership, as a career and a community worth choosing.
About the role
This is a new role within the team and a rare opportunity to help build the College’s marketing function. From segmentation to the member journeys, the campaign framework and the measures that tell us the impact we are having.
You will design and deliver audience-led marketing across the full membership lifecycle. Your key audiences will be medical students, PGY1 and PGY2 doctors, overseas-trained doctors, prospective and current registrars, new Fellows, existing members and those who have lapsed.
Your four areas of responsibility are:
- Marketing, funnel and measurement - build the College marketing framework and run campaigns against a defined funnel stage and audience, then set the baselines, reporting and dashboards that show what worked.
- CRM, member journeys and marketing automation - design multi-step personalised journeys for onboarding, training, Fellowship, CPD, renewal and re-engagement, and take marketing requirements into our CRM programme.
- Relationships and partnerships - keep active the relationships that make recruitment marketing work, including universities, medical schools, student associations, Health New Zealand and hospital RMO units.
-
Campaign delivery - run campaigns as managed projects with plans, budgets, milestones and post-campaign evaluation.
What you will bring
- At least five years’ marketing experience, owning campaigns from strategy through to delivery and measured outcomes.
- Strong grasp of audience segmentation, lifecycle marketing, funnel thinking and member or customer journeys.
- Hands-on CRM or marketing automation experience - building segments, journeys and automated campaigns yourself.
- Confidence with data including setting baselines, reading dashboards, assessing performance and reporting return on investment.
- Excellent writing, messaging and briefing skills, turning insight into clear and persuasive content.
- Experience with recruitment, acquisition, retention or membership growth campaigns. Professional, student, education or health sector audiences would be ideal.
- Sound budget and prioritisation judgement.
- Comfort using approved AI-enabled tools within clear privacy, security and responsible AI expectations.
You will thrive here if you are:
- Comfortable building something new and creating structure where there is no precedent.
- Evidence-led and curious, willing to test, learn and adapt.
- Collaborative and influential, able to work through others and build trust across teams.
- Highly organised across multiple campaigns and deadlines.
- Committed to accuracy, brand consistency, cultural safety and respectful communication.
- Able to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and Māori data sovereignty considerations to marketing decisions and member-facing activity.
-
Thoughtful and accountable with AI, including verifying outputs, protecting privacy and keeping human judgement central.

We want our College team to reflect the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand and the communities that our people serve and work in. We acknowledge the impacts of inequitable health systems and care on Māori as tangata whenua, and on other groups, and are addressing these as part of our strategic direction.
Applicants with additional skills in te reo and tikanga Māori and experience in working in Māori contexts are most welcome.
The College seeks to attract staff with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills, and perspectives, and welcome, value and respect their contributions to our work and workplace.
